Minecraft is a sandbox video game actually created by Swedish game developer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and published by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, source of information gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival function where in fact the player must acquire resources to generate the world and maintain health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to create with and the capability to fly, an experience setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The PC version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and investments for the overall game.Minecraft received compliment from critics upon release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and awards. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each month, rendering it the best-selling PC game up to now and the next best-selling video game ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft declared a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the ball player to perform, allowing players a great amount of flexibility in choosing how to experiment with the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experience in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move widely around the world, objects can only be placed at set locations on the grid. Players can collect these material place and blocks them somewhere else, thus allowing for various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the ball player is put on the top of an procedurally made and nearly infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system uses a day and night routine, with one full cycle enduring 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players face various non-player personas known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
