Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game artist Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and printed by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to develop constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where in fact the player must acquire resources to create the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative setting where players have unlimited resources to build with and the capability to fly, an excitement mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The Computer version of the overall game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and resources for the overall game.Minecraft received compliment from critics upon release, and won numerous accolades and awards. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game currently and the second best-selling gaming ever, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the ball player to perform, allowing players a great amount of independence in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there can be an achievement system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only just be placed at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these materials blocks and place them somewhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the ball player is put on the top of any procedurally produced and practically infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system practices a day and night routine, with one full routine prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players face various non-player individuals known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been known by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
