Minecraft is a sandbox video game actually created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and publicized by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft permit players to make constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, learning resource gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to generate the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the capability to fly, an excitement function where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can take a flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The Computer version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and belongings for the overall game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and gained numerous accolades and prizes. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game up to now and the next best-selling video game ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the ball player to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of freedom in choosing how that can be played the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to learn in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and inserting blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be placed at set locations on the grid. Players can gather these materials blocks and place them anywhere else, thus allowing for various constructions.In the beginning of the game, the player is positioned on the surface of a procedurally produced and nearly infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system employs a complete day and night pattern, with one full cycle long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players come across various non-player characters known as mobs, including animals, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
