Minecraft is a sandbox gaming actually created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and published by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft permit players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where in fact the player must acquire resources to develop the global world and maintain health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to create with and the ability to fly, an trip setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The Laptop or computer version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and gained numerous accolades and awards. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game to date and the next best-selling video game of all right time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the player to perform, allowing players plenty of liberty in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there is an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around placing and breaking blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be located at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can gather these materials blocks and place them in other places, allowing for various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the player is positioned on the top of the procedurally made and virtually infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system uses a full night and day pattern, with one full routine lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players come across various non-player heroes known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
