Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and posted by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft permit players to develop constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival method where the player must acquire resources to create the world and keep maintaining health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the ability to fly, an experience setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The Computer version of the game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received compliment from critics upon release, and earned numerous honors and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game currently and the second best-selling video game of all time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players plenty of independence in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there can be an success system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to learn in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around putting and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move readily around the world, objects can only just be positioned at resolved locations on the grid. Players can collect these material blocks and place them elsewhere, allowing for various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the gamer is put on the surface of the procedurally generated and practically infinite game world. The globe is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system employs a day and night cycle, with one full circuit enduring 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players face various non-player characters known as mobs, including animals, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
