Minecraft is a sandbox gaming originally created by Swedish game custom Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and released by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft permit players to make constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to create the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to build with and the ability to fly, an experience method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can take flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The PC version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and possessions for the overall game.Minecraft received reward from critics upon release, and received numerous accolades and honours. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game up to now and the next best-selling gaming ever, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft released a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the participant to perform, allowing players plenty of flexibility in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there is an achievement system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to learn in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around inserting and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move widely around the world, objects can only just be positioned at preset locations on the grid. Players can get these materials place and blocks them somewhere else, thus allowing for various constructions. In the very beginning of the game, the player is located on the top of your procedurally generated and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system follows a night and day cycle, with one full circuit long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players face various non-player individuals known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been mentioned by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
