Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and shared by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft enable players to generate constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the game include exploration, learning resource gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to construct the world and keep maintaining health, a creative setting where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the ability to fly, an adventure setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can take a flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The Personal computer version of the game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and possessions for the game.Minecraft received compliment from critics upon release, and triumphed in numerous prizes and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players every month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling video game ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed 8 weeks.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of flexibility in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to learn in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around placing and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be put at fixed locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these material blocks and place them elsewhere, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the gamer is positioned on the top of your procedurally produced and almost infinite game world. The globe is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system follows a day and night routine, with one full circuit sustained 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the game, players face various non-player people known as mobs, including animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
