Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and released by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft permit players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Other activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay modes are available, including survival function where in fact the player must acquire resources to construct the world and keep maintaining health, a creative setting where players have unlimited resources to develop with and the capability to fly, an excitement mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The Personal computer version of the game is noted for its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and possessions for the overall game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and honours. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players every month, rendering it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling video game of most right time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players plenty of liberty in choosing how to experience the gameHowever, there is an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person function. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be placed at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can collect these materials place and blocks them elsewhere, thus enabling various constructions. At the start of the game, the gamer is put on the surface of an procedurally made and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a complete night and day pattern, with one full circuit prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players come across various non-player characters known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been known by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the participant; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
