Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and shared by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival method where the player must acquire resources to create the world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to develop with and the capability to fly, an excitement mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator method where players can take flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The Laptop or computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the overall game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and honours. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each full month, rendering it the best-selling PC game up to now and the next best-selling video game of all right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition later being completed two months.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the ball player to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of independence in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there is an achievement system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and inserting blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move freely around the world, objects can only just be positioned at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can collect these material blocks and place them anywhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the gamer is placed on the surface of the procedurally produced and virtually infinite game world. The planet is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system employs a complete night and day routine, with one full circuit sustained 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players come across various non-player individuals known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been known by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
