Minecraft is a sandbox video game originally created by Swedish game custom Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and posted by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft enable players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Alternative activities in the game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where in fact the player must acquire resources to build the world and keep maintaining health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to create with and the capability to fly, an trip function where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator method where players can soar around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The Computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and investments for the game.Minecraft received reward from critics after release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and honors. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game up to now and the second best-selling gaming ever, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of freedom in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person setting. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and positioning blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move freely across the world, objects can only be located at set locations on the grid. Players can collect these materials place and blocks them elsewhere, thus allowing for various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the gamer is located on the surface of any procedurally generated and practically infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a complete night and day circuit, with one full routine prolonged 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players encounter various non-player character types known as mobs, including pets or animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been known by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the ball player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
