Minecraft is a sandbox gaming originally created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and printed by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to generate constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival method where the player must acquire resources to generate the world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to construct with and the ability to fly, an experience mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator method where players can take a flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or kill any. The PC version of the game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and investments for the game.Minecraft received reward from critics upon release, and gained numerous honors and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game as of yet and the second best-selling video game of all time, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft declared a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the player to perform, allowing players a great amount of freedom in choosing how to experience the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and inserting blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move across the world freely, objects can only be located at permanent locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these material blocks and place them in other places, thus allowing for various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the player is positioned on the surface of an procedurally generated and practically infinite game world. The world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system uses a full day and night pattern, with one full circuit sustained 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players come across various non-player individuals known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been known by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
