Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and posted by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to construct constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Alternative activities in the overall game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival function where the player must acquire resources to construct the world and maintain health, a creative function where players have unlimited resources to create with and the capability to fly, an excitement mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can soar around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or destroy any. The Laptop or computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and won numerous awards and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players every month, making it the best-selling PC game thus far and the next best-selling gaming ever, only behind the various releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft released a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players plenty of independence in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there is an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to experience in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and putting blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move freely around the world, objects can only just be positioned at predetermined locations on the grid. Players can accumulate these materials blocks and place them in other places, enabling various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the participant is located on the top of the procedurally generated and virtually infinite game world. The world is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a full night and day cycle, with one full circuit enduring 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the overall game, players face various non-player characters known as mobs, including pets, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and grab blocks.
