Minecraft is a sandbox video game originally created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and released by Mojang. The creative and building areas of Minecraft enable players to make constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally produced world. Other activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and battle. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to build the global world and keep maintaining health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to create with and the ability to fly, an adventure mode where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can take a flight around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or demolish any. The PC version of the game is noted for its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and resources for the game.Minecraft received praise from critics upon release, and triumphed in numerous accolades and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players every month, rendering it the best-selling PC game at this point and the next best-selling video game ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft declared a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the participant to accomplish, allowing players plenty of independence in choosing how to learn the gameHowever, there is an achievement system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to play in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around inserting and breaking blocks. The overall game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be positioned at set locations on the grid. Players can collect these material place and blocks them anywhere else, enabling various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the player is located on the surface of a procedurally produced and almost infinite game world. The entire world is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system practices a night and day cycle, with one full circuit sustained 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the game, players face various non-player individuals known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the day time. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been known by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
