Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game creator Markus "Notch" Persson, and later developed and released by Mojang. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft allow players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the game include exploration, learning resource gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to make the global world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to develop with and the ability to fly, an excursion setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator setting where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or eliminate any. The Laptop or computer version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and property for the overall game.Minecraft received compliment from critics after release, and acquired numerous accolades and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the second best-selling video game of all right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft released a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players a great amount of liberty in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there can be an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the option to try out in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around breaking and positioning blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a set grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move widely across the world, objects can only just be placed at set locations on the grid. Players can get these material place and blocks them in other places, thus enabling various constructions.In the beginning of the game, the ball player is located on the top of your procedurally made and nearly infinite game world. The globe is divided into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk over the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a complete night and day pattern, with one full cycle lasting 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players encounter various non-player heroes known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been noted by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
