Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game custom made Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and posted by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft permit players to construct constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the overall game include exploration, source gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay settings are available, including survival mode where in fact the player must acquire resources to make the global world and maintain health, a creative mode where players have unlimited resources to generate with and the ability to fly, an excitement method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator method where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or damage any. The PC version of the game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay technicians, items, and property for the game.Minecraft received reward from critics upon release, and received numerous honours and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players each full month, making it the best-selling PC game at this point and the next best-selling video game ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft announced a package to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.

Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that has no specific goals for the gamer to accomplish, allowing players plenty of flexibility in choosing how to try out the gameHowever, there can be an achievements system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experiment with in third person mode. The core gameplay revolves around placing and breaking blocks. The overall game world comprises rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move widely across the world, objects can only be located at preset locations on the grid. Players can gather these materials place and blocks them anywhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the player is placed on the top of any procedurally generated and almost infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and different water bodies. The in-game time system employs a complete day and night cycle, with one full routine sustained 20 real-time minutes. Throughout the course of the game, players face various non-player people known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile creatures. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the day time. By contrast, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique animals have been observed by reviewers, such as the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature having the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
