Minecraft is a sandbox gaming at first created by Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and publicized by Mojang later. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft enable players to create constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Other activities in the game include exploration, reference gathering, crafting, and combat. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival function where the player must acquire resources to construct the world and maintain health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to develop with and the capability to fly, an adventure method where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator mode where players can journey around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or destroy any. The Computer version of the overall game is noted for its modding scene, where a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and assets for the overall game.Minecraft received compliment from critics after release, and triumphed in numerous honors and accolades. As of June 2016, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with an increase of than 40 million unique players every month, rendering it the best-selling PC game to date and the next best-selling gaming of all right time, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In September 2014, Microsoft announced a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed two months later.

Players can gather these materials place and blocks them anywhere else, thus enabling various constructions. In the beginning of the game, the ball player is located on the top of your procedurally made and almost infinite game world. The global world is split into biomes ranging from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain consisting of plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system comes after a day and night cycle, with one full cycle long lasting 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players come across various non-player individuals known as mobs, including family pets, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for crafting and food materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been mentioned by reviewers, including the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks up on the player; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
