Minecraft is a sandbox video game at first created by Swedish game custom Markus "Notch" Persson, and developed and shared by Mojang later. The creative and building areas of Minecraft allow players to make constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally made world. Other activities in the game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and fight. Multiple gameplay methods are available, including survival mode where the player must acquire resources to build the world and keep maintaining health, a creative method where players have unlimited resources to build with and the ability to fly, an excursion setting where players can play custom maps created by other players, and a spectator function where players can travel around and clip through blocks, but cannot place or ruin any. The PC version of the overall game is noted because of its modding scene, in which a dedicated community creates new gameplay mechanics, items, and property for the overall game.Minecraft received compliment from critics after release, and gained numerous honours and accolades. As of 2016 June, over 106 million copies have been sold across all platforms, with more than 40 million unique players each month, making it the best-selling PC game thus far and the next best-selling gaming ever, only behind the many releases of Tetris. In 2014 September, Microsoft released a deal to buy Mojang and the Minecraft intellectual property for US$2.5 billion, with the acquisition being completed 8 weeks later.
Minecraft is a three-dimensional sandbox game that does not have any specific goals for the ball player to accomplish, allowing players plenty of independence in choosing how to play the gameHowever, there can be an accomplishment system. Gameplay by default is first person, but players have the choice to experience in third person method. The core gameplay revolves around positioning and breaking blocks. The game world is composed of rough 3D objects--mainly cubes--arranged in a fixed grid pattern and representing different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, lava, tree trunks, etc. While players can move around the world freely, objects can only be located at preset locations on the grid. Players can collect these material blocks and place them somewhere else, allowing for various constructions thus.In the beginning of the game, the player is located on the surface of the procedurally generated and almost infinite game world. The global world is divided into biomes which range from deserts to jungles to snowfield. Players can walk across the terrain comprising plains, mountains, forests, caves, and various water bodies. The in-game time system follows a full day and night routine, with one full circuit enduring 20 real-time minutes. Through the entire course of the overall game, players come across various non-player personas known as mobs, including animals, villagers and hostile animals. Non-hostile animals--such as cows, pigs, and chickens--can be hunted for food and crafting materials, and spawn in the daytime. In comparison, hostile mobs--such as large spiders, skeletons, and zombies--spawn during nighttime or in dark places, such as caves. Some Minecraft-unique creatures have been observed by reviewers, like the Creeper, an exploding creature that sneaks through to the gamer; and the Enderman, a creature with the ability to teleport and pick up blocks.
